Bangor Hydro-Electric Company Works to Improve Storm Restoration Time

Bangor, ME--Bangor Hydro-Electric Company has formed a team to investigate alternative ways to address power outages. The team includes BHE employees from all areas of the company.

"The project was prompted by a storm in October 2006 that caused a number of power outages," said Project Manager Kim Wadleigh."As a result, we will be looking at current processes and technology in all areas of the company so that we can provide the best service possible to our customers."

BHE will be spending some time visiting a few utility companies on the East Coast that have shown marked improvement in either storm restoration or daily work process claims. The project is in the very early stages; however the vision is to implement a process to manage storms and other power outage incidents in a more efficient way while keeping costs down. "Customer expectations and technology have changed over the years, and we want to be able to provide information to customers as quickly as possible so they can plan their daily activities," said Wadleigh.

The project is expected to last into the first quarter of 2008.
